Superando la censura. Crítica social y política en el cine cubano contemporáneo a partir de Fresa y chocolate

Författare

  • Milla Serrano Rubio

Summary, in English

The central goal of this investigation consists in analyzing the implementation of social criticism in five contemporary Cuban films starting with the Cuban Special Period and considering Cuban poitical and ideological regime which implicates censorship within its national cinematographic industry, as well as the international success of Strawberry and Chocolate. However, the analysis of this investigation focuses only on some of the polemic topics such as intolerance towards homosexuals and transsexuals, emigration and absence of basic and first need products and goods. The results of this investigation show that despite the existing political censorship, Cuban filmmakers still manage to implement successfully social and political criticism due to a number of factors such as the more international approach of Cuban cinematography, international coproductions and a Cuba's big achievements in legislation regarding homosexual and transsexual individuals.
