This event is organised to explore the urgent need to transform our food systems for a sustainable, more resilient, healthier and equitable world. We'll first dive deep into the challenges of today's food systems, from extensive resource use, climate impacts, food waste and biodiversity loss to food insecurity, inequality, and human heath impacts.
We’ll then explore the innovative solutions that can nourish both people and the planet Earth. We will look into the principles of sustainable agriculture, including regenerative agriculture, digitalisation, circular bioeconomy and discover how certain practices can improve soil health, reduce emissions, and enhance biodiversity.
We'll also delve into the exciting world of alternative proteins from insects, algae, microorganisms and animal cells showcasing how innovations in biotechnology can diversify our food sources and address most of the challenges we face. The importance of just transition, supporting regulatory frameworks, governance, funding, R&D, consumer acceptance, public procurement etc. in the food systems transformaitons will be addressed during the panel discussions.

- Moderated discussion with diverse panelists representing key actors in the food supply chain, including farmers, food industry, consumers, and policy experts
- Focus on practical strategies for scaling up regenerative agriculture and protein diversification
Audience Q&A: to encourage participation and dialogue (15 min)
The event is co-organised by Lund University Centre for Environmental and Climate Science (CEC), BIOECONOMY Graduate Research School, EIT Food GROW project, EU Horizon Europe EPIC-SHIFT and FEASTS projects.
The event is part of Sustainability Week 2025, which runs between 5-10 May. Sustainability Week is an annual event in Lund organised as a joint venture by Lund University and Lund municipality. The week serves as a platform for bringing together ideas, raising public awareness and for inspiring sustainable change.
